la cocina de frida

For this review, we also have a video version - check it out!

We went to La Cocina de Frida on a Saturday afternoon, which was really fun because we were walking around in Andersonville shopping.  We started to get hungry, and my mom said “oh, I heard about this place on Metromix, it’s called Frida and they are supposed to have really good Mexican food.”  So I said “ok, lets go there because I need to review a new restaurant for my website.”  Besides, my mom really likes Mexican food because she’s from Texas.

So, we went inside and they said we could sit anywhere we wanted.  The inside is really colorful, the walls are painted really bright, pretty colors and there’s lots of pictures on the wall of an artist named Frida Kahlo.  My mom and dad both said that she is a good artist that they really like.  They even made a movie about her, and I have a finger puppet of Frida too!  We wanted to sit outside because it was a really pretty Saturday afternoon.  The outside patio is really pretty, and looked like a place I dreamed about once!  There were fruits growing, there was a pear tree and an apple tree and even a grapevine.  There were even flags of Mexico hanging on the fence, and one time a squirrel came and took one of the flags - it was so funny!

Now - to the food!  Well, where should I start… they were still serving brunch so I got to order breakfast for lunch, that was very silly!  I had scrambled eggs with homemade guacamole and queso fresco.  My eggs came with refried beans - usually I hate beans, I never EVER eat beans but these beans were really good and I ate them all!  My mom said that maybe the reason I liked the refried beans was because they made them with olive oil and not lard, she says lard is bad for you but olive oil is good for you.  I had a very delicious, delicious lemonade - and if I kept saying “delicious” as many times as the lemonade was delicious this page wouldn’t be big enough!  I didn’t eat the hot sauce, but my mom and dad said they really liked it.  I really liked the chips, and I had a bite of the tamales that my mom ordered and those were really good too.

ps: we went back for dinner a few nights later, and I had nachos that were as big as a mountain, I couldn’t even finish them!  My rating is five stars - it was awesome!

epic burger

On Sunday, we took the el downtown to Epic Burger. At Epic Burger, they have the best, yummiest, most delicious, well, if I keep telling how good the burgers are this page would not be big enough!

The restaurant… in Epic Burger, they have beautiful designs all over the walls. I got to meet the person who owns it, and he was happy to meet the minicritic - ME!!!!!!! There were cool, so awesome lights hanging from the ceiling. Maybe, they were from Ikea? Well, I don’t tell about lights, but about food, so, moving on…

About the FOOD!!! I had the Epic Burger with Wisconsin Cheddar Cheese on an Egg Bun. The burger came out and I did not think I would like it, but it turned out to be very good! It had a soft bun on the inside and a perfect crispness on the outside, just right. The sauce on the burger is a mystery and taste really good. The beef was delicious. The pickles, lettuce and tomato were very fresh. The burger tasted like I was in HEAVEN!!! I ate every bite.

On to the French Fries… They come in a little, cute sack. They offer organic ketchup, too! The fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside (just like the bun on my burger!) and they were delicious!!!

My chocolate malt almost tasted like chocolate milk. It was really good, and I really liked how it was homemade. Go to Epic Burger TODAY!!!!

five stars!

u lucky dawg

I must review one of my favorite hot dog places, u lucky dawg, (which used to be fluky’s).

I just feel when I walk in that door so hungry because of the delicious hot dogs and good food. There are hot dog pictures everywhere that make me hungry and make me laugh. There are games and tv’s too. There are cool tables with spinning chairs - and delicious hot dogs which I want to tell about now…

I love the hot dogs. The buns are really soft and good. I like how the hot dog tastes right off the grill. mmmmm. I like the toppings how they are fresh and good. The relish and mustard is so good. I mostly eat two hot dogs there! I like the root beer too. It is really good with lots of ice. Their french fries, (I am telling this for my brother - who loves their fries), are soft, salty, krinkly and really good. They also give you a lot! and a lot of ketchup!

I do not like their ice cream. Blah! It is not really good.

I hope you like my review, and try u lucky dawg today, it is a perfect lunch place, and drive-thru.

three stars!

candlelite

Candlelite is close to our house and a family favorite. The sign outside is beautiful and points to the doorway. It is one of my favorites and we have been here many, many, many times. If we kept going on the page would not be big enough!

The inside is beautiful, with pretty paint and bricks and TV’s showing sports, like a Cubs game tonight. I like the photographs of baseball games. There are games like darts, too.

Here are my favorite drinks at Candlelite… the Shirley Temple is yummy, and I always ask for the number of cherries as how old I am. The Root Beer is from Goose Island and is awesome.

My favorite appetizer is Calamari with cocktail sauce and lots of lemons. My mom and dad love the Chicken Wings. I think they may marry them someday.

On to the PIZZA!!!! They specialize in thin crust. I have two favorites. I get the kid size (personal) which is perfect for me. The first is Pizza Margherita with basil and Roma tomatoes. YUM!!! My other favorite is the White Pizza with added SHRIMP!!! It has olive oil, cheese, goat cheese, caramelized onions, roasted garlic and added shrimp. SO GOOD!!!

My brother is allergic to everything but he loves the french fries. My mom and dad love the pizza and the specials.

At Candlelite, the servers know my brother and me by name. They know what we want to eat before we even tell them. They are so nice and friendly, nice to chat with and talk to. They even have cool salt and pepper shakers - they are different on every table.

In the summer, you can sit outside and it is awesome fun!

You should check it out! (By the way, mom says on Tuesday’s they have buy one get one free pizza night!)

four stars!

crust

For my very first review, I must choose crust, my favorite restaurant. I like how it is homemade, organic and really good. When I walk in, I see the beautiful design. I smell the pizzas and sometimes see them going by, and just feel happy to be in there. I like going to Wicker Park to go there, especially in the summer at night, when we sit outside and eat dinner and dessert.

The pizza at crust is my favorite pizza. It is fresh, I like how they design the pizza. It is really pretty. I like how it tastes. The crust is soft and thin, really easy to bite through and so good! I like how the vegetables are kinda like sprinkled on it. I really love the GOAT CHEESE!!! It is so good. (I also like getting shrimp on my pizza, it is really good, too). The pizza’s size is just right for a kid, even though it is supposed to be for a grownup!

This is my favorite pizza from crust:

Shroom - Shaved cremini mushrooms, goat cheese, bechamel, tossed baby spinach, lemon vinaigrette.

Their root beer is really good and fresh, too, and my mom says their bloody mary’s can’t be beat! They also have good shirley temple’s.

For dessert, they have a really delicious chocolate cake!

For my last birthday, we ordered pizza’s from crust, and they put whatever I wanted on them. That’s right, goat cheese and shrimp! YUM!!!!

I also like the friendly staff, how they serve you and that they are very nice to you.

five stars!
