la cocina de frida
For this review, we also have a video version - check it out!
We went to La Cocina de Frida on a Saturday afternoon, which was really fun because we were walking around in Andersonville shopping. We started to get hungry, and my mom said “oh, I heard about this place on Metromix, it’s called Frida and they are supposed to have really good Mexican food.” So I said “ok, lets go there because I need to review a new restaurant for my website.” Besides, my mom really likes Mexican food because she’s from Texas.
So, we went inside and they said we could sit anywhere we wanted. The inside is really colorful, the walls are painted really bright, pretty colors and there’s lots of pictures on the wall of an artist named Frida Kahlo. My mom and dad both said that she is a good artist that they really like. They even made a movie about her, and I have a finger puppet of Frida too! We wanted to sit outside because it was a really pretty Saturday afternoon. The outside patio is really pretty, and looked like a place I dreamed about once! There were fruits growing, there was a pear tree and an apple tree and even a grapevine. There were even flags of Mexico hanging on the fence, and one time a squirrel came and took one of the flags - it was so funny!
Now - to the food! Well, where should I start… they were still serving brunch so I got to order breakfast for lunch, that was very silly! I had scrambled eggs with homemade guacamole and queso fresco. My eggs came with refried beans - usually I hate beans, I never EVER eat beans but these beans were really good and I ate them all! My mom said that maybe the reason I liked the refried beans was because they made them with olive oil and not lard, she says lard is bad for you but olive oil is good for you. I had a very delicious, delicious lemonade - and if I kept saying “delicious” as many times as the lemonade was delicious this page wouldn’t be big enough! I didn’t eat the hot sauce, but my mom and dad said they really liked it. I really liked the chips, and I had a bite of the tamales that my mom ordered and those were really good too.
ps: we went back for dinner a few nights later, and I had nachos that were as big as a mountain, I couldn’t even finish them! My rating is five stars - it was awesome!
